THE WORK of OSIRIS
This next module of the Chattanooga Mystery School Study Group will involve the “work of Osiris”. The myth of Osiris details the death, alchemical transformation, and resurrection of the ancient Egyptian deity Osiris. The descent of Osiris into the underworld corresponds to the spiritual aspirants descent into the unknown aspects of their inner life. C.G. Jung called this mysterious part “the shadow”.
For the first half of our lives it was demanded that we repress any impulses and personality aspects that our immediate culture rejected. For many women this might have meant repressing their assertive, penetrating intellectual powers in favor of a more rewarded “niceness” and malleability. For many men this might have meant repressing their emotional and nurturing aspects to become tough enough to be a “real man.” For most all people it meant repressing a vibrant sexuality and erotic joy natural to each of us, but accepted by few.
In this next learning module we will explore the ideas of the spiritual underworld as full of secret riches and cultural nightmares. In the end we hope to emerge, as Osiris did, with a knowledge and spiritual authority that only a thorough exploration of ones depths can bring.
