My father used to tell this story from the days when he played piano in the Borscht Belt (the nightclubs in the Catskills) after World War II. He had forgotten his tie and borrowed one from the evening's comedian, Jack Roy. Roy had forgotten that he had to leave right after his performance. When Roy finished his comedy bit on stage, he went right to where my father was playing piano and took the tie off him. At this point, a little old lady in the crowd stood, pointed a shaking finger at Roy, and demanded, "You give that nice man back his tie!"

Even before he became Rodney Dangerfield, Jack Roy got no respect :-)
