So, this guy James Frey wrote a popular book saying that he used to be a nasty bad-ass. Now The Smoking Gun (disclaimer: Smoking Gun is run by a former employer of mine) has revealed that he embellished his crimes and misdeeds. The full story is at
http://www.thesmokinggun.com/archive/0104061jamesfrey1.html

Here's what Reuters wrote:

"Frey's lawyer Martin Singer was not immediately available for comment. But in a letter to the Smoking Gun dated January 6 and published on the Web site, he called The Smoking Gun's assertions defamatory and threatened a lawsuit for millions of dollars in damages."

Why am I so amused? Because the defamatory statement is that James Frey really was not as vile an asshole as the book made him out to be. In other words, "I'm going to sue you for saying I'm not that bad!"

Ah, lawyers :-)

"Ok, this has really upset and pissed me off to no end... I will have more information about this law later... but today!! lets break some rules!!

I am going to turn on anonymous comments... (give me a few minutes) please comment something to "annoy" me.

in turn by doing this you are breaking the law [sponsored by Alan Specter and signed into law last week by Duhbya - AG] punishable by 2 years in prision and $100,000 in fines. no... seriously...

when you are done post it in your journal (you may want to link back to [livejournal.com profile] hugs journal) "
