7-20-02 Events
Jul. 20th, 2002 03:35 pmBeen missing people at various events, so I'll try and post some of the things I'm doing on LJ as a central way to keep track with everyone else.
Going to Salome's Wish tonight at what used to be the Dark Horse ... can never remember what they call it now. Kind of like when they changed the name of 688 to something like "Outtacontrol." Could never remember the new name either, and never heard anyone refer to it as anything but 688.
Anybody interested in seeing Frankenstein in Love next week? I was going to go to the midnight show Sat, but won't be doing that. Anyone going Thurs?
Went to a forum on the "Coca Cola Death Squads" this morning -- paramilitary squads that target people who try to unionize Coca Cola plants in Colombia. From www.responsibleshopper.org:
July 20, 2001, a lawsuit was filed in Miami District Court against Coca-Cola, alleging the company with human rights abuses in Colombia. The American Labor Rights Group and the United Steel Workers filed the suit "on behalf of the estate of a union leader killed in 1996 and others who have been threatened." The suit claims that managers of Coca-Cola bottling plants "contracted with or otherwise directed paramilitary security forces that utilized extreme violence and murdered, tortured, unlawfully detained or otherwise silenced trade union leaders." Statistics show that the number of union workers in Colombian Coca-Cola plants has dropped from 1,300 to 450 since 1993.

They're going to protest in front of Coca Cola HQ here in Atlanta Monday at 11. I can't make that one, but it should be fun. They're also going to have a follow-up meeting Weds the 24th.
