Last comment on run-offs
Dec. 4th, 2008 11:22 amSome interesting discussion regarding the run off results. Since I don't want to post this in 5 different places in that one post, I'll just put it here.
No one (myself included) really expected Martin to beat Shambles, whether Obama showed or not. However, the lopsided margin of victory means that the hardliners in the right across the country are already using the election as justification to continue (and trumpet) their more egregious policies and tactics. The general feeling seemed to be that an Obama appearance would have generated enough excitement and publicity to add five percent to Martin's margin, making it a 53 - 47 Shambles victory and forcing the right to reassess those failed, horribly divisive and destructive aspects of the GOP. Thus the reason many are feeling that Obama's failure to come through for Martin will prove a significant factor in the US continuing to suffer through all the same BS that has made politics even more grotesque for the past two administrations.
